Ferry Street Demonstration Site — Community Consultation
On 17 June 2026, Bellingen Shire Council unanimously resolved to transfer Lot 1 Ferry Street, Urunga to Waterfall Way Community Land Trust for $1 — specifically to enable the development of permanently affordable homes through a community land trust model. This is a significant step forward, and we are grateful to Council for its leadership.
As a required next step in the process, Council is now inviting community feedback on the proposed disposal of the land at less than market value. This 28-day consultation is your opportunity to have your say — and we encourage the community to engage.
About the proposal
WWCLT has asked Council to transfer the site so that we can develop around six modest two- and three-bedroom homes for local workers using the Community Land Trust model — creating permanently affordable homes while respecting the environmental qualities of the site and the surrounding neighbourhood.
As part of early feasibility work, we have sought advice from a First Nation custodians, an ecologist, arborist and architect to ensure that any future development would retain all cultural heritage, significant trees, support biodiversity, and keep the site's development light-touch and environmentally responsible.
How to participate
We will post more information about the consultation process, key dates, and how to have your say, as soon as it becomes available.
