Ferry Street Demonstration Site — moving to the next stage

 On 19 August 2026, Bellingen Shire Council resolved unanimouslyto approve the transfer of the Ferry Street site in Urunga to Waterfall Way Community Land Trust, for $1, following a public exhibition process in July that drew 350 submissions — 287 of them, 82 per cent, in support.

The approval comes with clear safeguards: settlement won't proceed until planning approval and project finance are in place, and the land is legally tied to affordable housing — with a mechanism for Council to reclaim it if the project doesn't go ahead.
