There's plenty of talk about Ferry Street right now — and we love that people are interested. The best conversations happen face to face, so we're opening the doors.
Waterfall Way Community Land Trust (WWCLT) is holding two free community sessions — one in person in Urunga, one online — for anyone who wants to understand what's actually proposed for Ferry Street, how a community land trust works, and what it means for the Shire. Come with your questions: supportive, sceptical or just curious, you're welcome. We'll give a short, plain-English briefing and then open it right up.
Bellingen Shire Council's public consultation on the proposed transfer of the Ferry Street land closes at 4:00pm, Wednesday 29 July 2026 — so if you want your view to count, these sessions are timed to help you make it an informed one.
Session 1 — In person, Urunga

What we'll cover
• What's actually proposed at Ferry Street — six permanently affordable homes for local working families, on land Council has resolved to transfer to WWCLT
• Why Council is asked to transfer the land for $1, and what the community gets back — the value keeps working for the Shire forever, not paid out once to a private developer
• How a community land trust delivers perpetually affordable home ownership — homes priced against local incomes, not the market, staying affordable for the first family and every family after them
• The safeguards: WWCLT must prove finance before the land transfers, transfer isn't finalised until development approval, Council can take the land back if the project isn't delivered, and the land is legally tied to affordable housing permanently

Everyone. If you support the project, come and hear how to help. If you have doubts or have read things that concern you, especially come — we'd much rather answer your questions face to face than leave them circulating. Neighbours of the Ferry Street site are particularly welcome.
