Strong Community and Council Support for Local Affordable Housing Solution

Over the past few years, we’ve been working closely with Bellingen Shire Council to identify under-utilised council-owned land that could be repurposed for affordable housing. After much collaboration, we identified a promising site in Urunga and were hopeful that the Council would take the next steps to explore how this land could be transferred to Waterfall Way CLT.

We’re delighted to report that on Wednesday 19 March, the Council unanimously approved a Mayoral Minute (see attached), committing to this process. This marks a significant milestone for the WWCLT, enabling us to focus our efforts this year on assessing the feasibility of the demonstration site.

We extend our sincere gratitude to Bellingen Shire Council for their commitment to finding local solutions to the affordable housing crisis and for their support of the Community Land Trust (CLT) model. A huge thank you also goes to the dedicated HMAG volunteers who have worked tirelessly behind the scenes to make this happen. It’s been a long journey, and we’re thrilled to see real progress!
